It is necessary that you know how to set units before you start drafting in AutoCAD.

Depending on the industry you work for you may want to change the unit type.

For example if you are working for civil or architectural industry you may want to follow inch and feet type. whereas if you work for automobile industry you may want to follow millimeter or centimeter type.
