ORTHO MODE is one more drafting setting available in the status bar of AutoCAD software.
ORTHO MODE restricts the cursor movement to only vertical and horizontal direction. So for example if you start a line command and start drawing some lines with the ORTHO MODE turned on, you will end up drawing lines only with angles 0 , 90 , 180 , 270 or 360 as these are the resulting angles for the vertical and horizontal directions.
